This is a course in American politics. The focus is upon the role of government in capitalism; upon economic, fiscal and social welfare policy; and upon American political thought concerning these issues. There is a heavy emphasis on political and cultural development. The issues are traced across three epochs: pre-industrial America; the progressive era from 1890s through the New Deal; and contemporary politics from the Great Society through Obama.
This course qualifies as a course in PLS 2000, Power & Politics.
