... looks like a record on the message board tonight. 52 visitors at one time. That broke yesterday's record of 44. Since launching the board, the record has slowly grown. Almost each weekend there is a new one (but not always).

Not sure, of course, what that means. Someone might have a bunch of browser windows open. Nonetheless, I'd thought I'd pass along the statistics.

.... I accidentally sent a message to Wittrs-Commons only. (should have been to the whole group). It was about a message board record tonight. I had said that we reached 52 visitors. However, after I posted that, the record went to 66!

Not sure what significance that is. I think it may mean that some people have numerous browser windows open. Whatever it was, there sure was a lot of interest in the mind and dualism thread this evening.

... looks like we have another record. 71 readers at one discreet point of time. Yesterday near midnight eastern time. I still don't know if that means a few people with multiple browser windows open if it means 71 distinct IP addresses. I think it means the latter. I'm checking on that with Fudforum today. I also hadn't considered the Google subscribers when counting our numbers. There's about 70 email subscribers (and have been for a couple of weeks). The web readership is clearly extra to the subscribers. We have a large segment of people who check in with the message board (and mostly likely Google and Yahoo) who are not our "members." In fact, I dare say we have more readers than subscribers.

It doesn't matter of course. We're still in an infant transition period. There's all sorts of change and innovation that needs to be implemented. But that will come with time.

.. It appears we have a new message-board record tonight. 74 at one discreet time. As always, I'm not really sure what that means, if anything. But I know that, for whatever reason, the visitor count was abnormally high for any single point in time.

... forgot to mention this. We broke a message board record on Thursday at 3:18 in the morning (Eastern time), which to most, is rather late Wednesday night. I didn't notice it myself. We had 156 visitors.

I really don't know what to make of it. It's like we get hit with a group of people who come and go at regular intervals. During the same week there can be as low as 1-5 visitors. Very strange how these "waves" hit. Also, judging by the lateness of the waves, it appears we are most popular outside of the United States. (Surprise, surpise. Americans are, in general, philosophically barren)

I think the board counts ip address, not "hits" (browser windows). But I'm not sure. It's conceivable that, if it only counts browser windows, that some could have multiple windows open. Some visitors are spammers trying to break in. But those "flies" are generally low in number. I've seen what people look at during high waves of numbers -- so I know the total this week is not caused by spammers. But I just don't know if its 156 distinct ips or open windows. (I'm going to write to fudforum today to see.)

So, the record of 156 last week was neither ip's or number of windows; it was browsers.
